Is there anything that screams summer louder than Peach Ice Cream? The combination of luscious, ripe peaches and sweet cream, it’s heavenly. Since we’re right in the middle of peach season I recommend that you run, don’t walk to get your hands on the ingredients to make your own peach ice cream. There flavor of an in-season peach is like none other.
A few years ago I bought an ice cream maker like this one on sale. It has turned out to be the most used appliance in my kitchen. Really, it was kind of life changing. It’s incredibly easy to make your own ice cream at home. Just mix up the base, add some kind of flavor, then dump it in the ice cream maker and walk away. Once you master one recipe you’ll find yourself making endless variations. Are there really any bad ice cream flavors?
Peach Ice Cream
makes about 4 cups of ice cream
3 cups peaches, peeled and sliced
1 cup half and half
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Place peaches into a blender, blend until finely chopped. Add remaining ingredients and turn the blender on for just a few seconds. Pour ingredients into the freezer bowl of an ice cream maker. Turn on and follow manufacturer’s directions. (The directions for mine are basically “Turn on ice cream maker and wlk away for about 30-45 minutes.) Once ice cream is thick, transfer to a freezer safe container and place in the freezer for about 2 hours, or until the ice cream is scoopable. Serve and enjoy!
