I’m not much on making New Year’s resolutions. I like to think of it more in terms of goal setting. It doesn’t feel as daunting to say “goal” as it does to say “resolution”. That probably tells you everything you need to know about me right there.
One of my goals this year is to eat more plants than animals. I think that’s a reasonable goal for me, and now that it’s on my official list I’ll be more mindful of it each day. Another goal on my New Year’s list is to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables that my kids eat every day. We made some great progress with that last year, but now it’s time for them to add more variety to their choices. As typical kids, they stick with what they know – which is mostly fruits like bananas, grapes, and clementines. I still haven’t had much luck in getting them to eat vegetables. So that’s a big goal on my list this year.
One of the ways I plan on getting some of those nutrient-rich foods into their little bodies is by sheer sneakiness. If you’ve read this blog for very long you know that I’m a proponent of hiding good stuff in our everyday foods. A few weeks ago I was given a copy of a great cookbook that follows that same philosophy. It’s called the Speedy Sneaky Chef – Quick, Healthy Fixes for Your Family’s Favorite Foods, by Missy Chase Lapine. It’s full of fun recipes that I know my kids will love, like Mini Muffin Tin Meatballs, Banana Breakfast Dog, and No Bake Peanut Butter Bars. The chocolate fruit dip made from avocados is on my list to try this weekend. And Missy uses all natural ingredients in her recipes and cautions against using artificial colors – a woman after my own heart. I can’t wait to dig into the recipes and tips she has to offer.

I try and set goals for many areas of my life in the new year. One thing i really want to do is make an effort to connect personally with friends and family rather than just update my status. One person per day – email, call, write a note. I also follow you on FB and in my reader

My Goal – Better health. I need to lose some lbs, but I am focusing on health overall instead of how much I weigh.
I’m already a fan on FB!
Biggest goal: continue replacing processed foods with made from scratch! We’re blessed that our kids will eat veggies and they eat fruit like it’s candy. One way I found to get them to eat spinach is by putting on our pizza! I make the dough and the sauce from scratch. Then top it with mozzarella, baby spinach leaves and turkey or ham slices. They devour it!!!
I’ve been a fan on FB for a few months now. LOVE IT!!!
